THE BAR IS
This is the home of The T's Tavern Softball Team Bull Pen. T's Tavern, located on Gordon Ave, was home to many a softball player, both on the T's Tavern Softball Team, as well as other bar-sponsored softball teams. The area immediately on your left as you entered T's , was named the BULL PEN by the players of T's Tavern. This area displayed the trophies and banners symbolizing the teams' achievements in the local BAR league. The T's Tavern compiled a record of 142 wins and 44 losses from 1985 thru 1989. In 1990 the Dynamite Jacks Softball Club went 26 -- 13. T's Tavern was the 1986 BAR League Champions, in 1987 placed 3rd and 1988 placed 4th. T's Tavern Softball Club was initially formed to play against the "Athletes In Action", who were on a tour of the Far East in 1986. The majority of the players were members of the NAS Cubi Point Varsity. It was quite a contrast in that the team played for a very popular bar located in Olongapo and the "Atlhletes In Action" were a softball team consisting of Christian college athletes. T's also earned a spot in the final 8 of the 1987 San Miquel Annual Invitational, a.k.a. as the Far East Championships. This annual tourney drew teams from as far away as Hawaii and all other locations in the Far East. Most tourneys had over 30 teams playing over a 10 day period. Here are the teams that I have been a part of: NAS Corpus Flyers Varsity, VRC-50, NAS Cubi Flyers Varsity, Select Tounament Teams, US Facility Varsity, and BAR League Teams that I played on and/or coached since I joined the US Navy in 73 until I retired in 93.

The Bar League traced its begining to a September 11, 1982 meeting, held at Mariposa, by Roger Rohwedder. His intent was to be prepared for the annual tournament held at San Miquel Communications Station. This league was originally ran by volunteers until 1988, when Recreation Services or MWR took control of the league. The name became (Bay Area Recreation) Here are the BAR League Champions from the 8 or 9 year run. [I left in 1991 and do not know if there was a bar league after Mt. Pinatubu or later years]. The name BAR League was not the original. It was called the FIL AM Friendship Softball League at first. Called affectionately -- the BAR league -- by the players, and modeled after the BAR league up at Angeles City. I have noted the teams that I played on. If you see anything published that is incorrect, let me know. I am researching this, but it has been a long time. NOTE: Most of the BAR League seasons began in September or October, and most ended in December -- however -- a few seasons ended in the following January. I only note the year that the BAR League commenced play. Play was scheduled to end prior to the San Miguel tourney ( which ended prior to base intramurals beginning). In 1982, Mariposa was the only established team, thus, Roger had the team play, however, did not let Mariposa in the final tournament.

Thanks to Leonard Applebaum for updates for 1991 and 1992 BAR League.
This was the big one...the one tournament that all serious softball players had to be a part of. Besides being a very, very competative tournament, it was also a great time for fun. At one time or another this tournament was referred to as the Far East Championships and was once an ASA sanctioned tournament. Listed below are the Men's Slowpitch Tournament Champions. The tournament years that I played in are labled black text on white background.
